Common injuries from car accidents

Motor vehicle accidents, especially car accidents, happen all too often. They range in severity and many of them are devastating to the individuals involved and their families.

Even in the safest of cars there is no such thing as a 100% safe car. While some vehicles are safer than others, there is always a risk- no matter what you drive, or where.

Injuries sustained in car accidents can be lifechanging and traumatizing. From the second when the accident takes place, these events can shatter a person’s life completely.

Whether you are injured, someone else in the vehicle is injured or you are the family member of a person who was severely injured in a car accident, there are consequences that everyone must live with.

If someone else was at fault for the accident, you may feel helpless and that the events that happened to you were truly unfair.

Emotional injuries

The trauma sustained from a car accident can be serious and life-threatening. This trauma can lead to depression, anxiety, PTSD and many other mental conditions. Unfortunately, in some cases it leads to suicide.

Physical injuries

The most common injuries sustained in car crashes involve:

  1. Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs)
  2. Fractures and broken bones
  3. Spinal cord injuries
  4. Paralysis
  5. Loss of limbs, and more.

These injuries are extremely serious. Especially traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries, which often lead to death.

If you were in a car accident it is critical to receive medical attention immediately after the accident and to remain alert for symptoms months after the accident.

Certain illnesses and injuries do not show symptoms until much later. Ensure that you stay on top of your health at the very least for the first year after the accident and contact your doctor if you develop any symptoms.
