Connecticut workplace fatalities on the rise

Resources are available to families suffering from the loss of a loved one in a fatal workplace accident. Fatal workplace accidents increased significantly in 2015 in Connecticut, according to a federal study. In Connecticut during 2015, 44 workers died in fatal workplace accidents which were 9 more workers killed in workplace accidents in Connecticut than during the previous year. The national rate for 2015 was 3.4 deaths per every 100,000 full-time workers. Connecticut ranked as 6th among states for its rate of fatal workplace accidents.

It is difficult to describe the devastation families can experience when a loved one is killed in a fatal workplace accident. Families are left coping with the overwhelming emotional challenges associated with the unexpected loss of a loved one, as well as the financial difficulties associated with loss of a loved one in a fatal workplace accident. Families may be left facing medical and funeral expenses, the loss of support and the emotional suffering associated with the loss.

As a result of the impact of a fatal accident at work on families of workers killed in workplace accidents, it is important for families to be familiar with the legal resources that may be available to them following a tragic loss. Workers' compensation benefits may be available to help them through the difficult time ahead. Workers' compensation death benefits may allow families to recover funeral expenses and compensation for the lost earnings of the loved one.

Workers' compensation death benefits can help families with the financial struggles that commonly accompany the loss of a loved one in a workplace accident. Families should be familiar with the resources available to help them so they can focus on the other challenges associated with the unexpected loss of a loved one in the workplace.
