Connecticut worker injured when circular saw hits his face

Connecticut's workers' compensation system can provide benefits for workers who are injured in an accident at work. However, workers' compensation doesn't always cover every worker or every type of accident, as a recent incident shows.

A worker was injured when he was hit in the face with a circular saw at a switch yard in Hartford. According to police, the 43-year-old man was working as a subcontractor and using the saw to cut masonry block when it somehow got knocked back into his face. Police said the saw hit him below the eye and fortunately his injuries were considered minor. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is conducting an investigation into the accident.

Not every type of worker is protected by workers' compensation. Entire classifications of workers, such as agricultural workers, are typically excluded. In some cases, independent contractors are not covered. Additionally, employers sometimes deny claims for workers compensation benefits by claiming that the worker was not actually injured in the course of his or her employment.

Workers who are hurt on the job can be stuck with large medical expenses and can be out of a paycheck for a long period of time while they fully recover. When employers do not honor their workers' compensation claims, these injured workers can be left in severe financial hardship. At times like these, it is crucial to have the help of Connecticut attorneys who have experience working with the state's workers' compensation laws and getting the injured the benefits they deserve.
