Which workplaces have the most workplace injuries?

Connecticut residents go to hospitals to get treated for their injuries and illnesses, which is why they might consider it one of the safest places to be in. However, caregivers take their ethical duty to no harm to their patients at a considerable risk to themselves-they often put their own safety in front of their patients and end up injuring themselves in the process.

Perhaps it is this reason that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration called hospitals one of the unsafe places to work. In 2011, the rate of workplace injuries and illnesses was 6.8 per 100 full-time employees, which translated into 253,700 work-related injuries and illnesses.

Why is the theoretically safest place to be the most dangerous for the people who work there? This is because hospitals have serious hazards and caregivers are performing dangerous tasks. Lifting and moving patients, procedures involving needle sticks, running to and from rooms in emergencies can cause slips, falls and trips-all these contribute to creating an unsafe working environment. In addition to this, the environment is also unpredictable, as one is never certain whether the person they are dealing with might suddenly turn combative, through no fault of their own.

When a workplace accident leads to getting injured on the job, the organization or hospital where the employee works may be liable to pay medical expenses for the injuries and even the wages lost due to recuperation time, in the form of workers' compensation. An experienced attorney may be able to guide Connecticut residents through the process of asserting their rights if they have sustained injuries at work.
