What are repetitive stress injuries?

Repetitive stress injuries, or repetitive strain injuries, can be a common workplace injury but you may have wondered what the term refers to. Repetitive stress injuries (RSI) occur in parts of the body that have performed repetitive tasks. Repetitive stress injuries generally impact the muscles, tendons and other soft tissue and can be painful injuries. RSI usually arises while performing work or tasks that require repetitive use of a part of the body.

Workplace brain injuries are a serious concern for workers

Workers can suffer a range of injuries on the job all with devastating consequences for workers and their families. One type of injury that may be suffered on the job is a traumatic brain injury. A worker who has suffered a brain injury may be unable to work, require significant care and experience physical, cognitive, emotional and personality changes as a result of the injury they have suffered. Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) are serious injuries that can be costly physically, financially and emotionally for workers and their families.

Connecticut worker killed in construction accident

A construction worker from a neighboring Connecticut community was recently killed in a construction accident. A second worker was taken to the hospital following the construction accident with life-threatening injuries. The 29-year old worker was killed, and the other worker seriously injured, while working on the second story portion of the roof of a home. Scaffolding had been erected on one side the 3-story home, however, there was no scaffolding at the rear of the home where the men were apparently working on a second story portion of the roof.

Workers' compensation basics

Workers' compensation benefits are important benefits for injured workers or workers otherwise harmed on the job, and their families, which is why it is important to understand the benefits available. In general, workers' compensation is an insurance program purchased by employers to assist injured employees when they have been harmed on the job such as in a workplace accident or by a workplace illness. In some circumstances, employers may be self insured instead of purchasing insurance.

Connecticut police detective injured while directing traffic

Workers injured on the job should be familiar with protections available to them. A Connecticut police detective was recently struck and injured by a motorcycle while directing traffic. The 14-year police veteran suffered serious injuries but was conscious at the scene of the accident. His condition is said to be improving and he was recently released from the hospital. He was at first trapped under the motorcycle following the accident, which occurred in the middle of the afternoon, but was freed with the help of those around the scene.
